Font Analyzer shows every font used inside a PDF file. For each font you see its name, type, whether it is embedded, whether it is a subset, its style, the text encoding and the pages where it is declared. It answers the common question: which font was used in this PDF?
The PDF is read in your browser, so the file is not uploaded to Super PDF. Designers, printers, students and office teams use it to check a document before printing, sending it to a press or sharing it with a client.
What the font report tells you
- Font name and type: for example Helvetica, Times-Roman or a TrueType, Type 1, CFF or Type 3 font.
- Embedded: the font file is stored inside the PDF, so the document looks the same on every device. Fonts that are not embedded are shown in red.
- Subset: only the characters that are needed are stored. Subset fonts keep the file small, and their names start with six capital letters and a plus sign.
- Text copy: tells you if the font has a text map (ToUnicode). Without it, copying or searching text can give wrong characters.
- Pages: the pages whose resources include the font, so you can find where a font is used.
Why check fonts in a PDF
A font that is not embedded can be replaced on another computer or printer, which changes the spacing and can break the layout. Print shops often ask for all fonts to be embedded. Type 3 fonts can look rough when zoomed in and may not be searchable.
If you find a problem, recreate the PDF from the original document with the option to embed all fonts. You can use PDF Info & Metadata Viewer to see the producer that created the file, and Compress PDF afterwards to reduce its size.
Limits of the font analyzer
- It lists fonts declared in the PDF. It does not show font size or color, and it cannot identify a font from a picture of text.
- A scanned PDF has no fonts because every page is an image. In that case the tool tells you that no fonts were found.
- Fonts are read from the file structure, so the page list shows where a font is available, which may include pages that use only part of it.

Font Analyzer – frequently asked questions
Does Font Analyzer upload my PDF?
No. The PDF is read in your browser and nothing is sent to a Super PDF server.
What does "embedded" mean?
An embedded font is stored inside the PDF, so the document looks the same on every device. A font that is not embedded must be installed on the reader's device, otherwise another font replaces it.
Why does it show no fonts for my PDF?
A scanned PDF contains pictures of pages, not text, so it has no fonts. Pure drawings and images also have none.
How can I find the font used in a PDF?
Select the PDF in Font Analyzer and click the button. The table lists the name of every font in the file, together with its type and the pages where it is available.
How do I know if fonts are embedded in a PDF?
Look at the Embedded column. "Yes" means the font file is stored in the PDF. "No" in red means the font must be installed on the reader's device. Standard fonts such as Helvetica and Times are marked separately.
What is a subset font?
A subset font stores only the characters used in the document instead of the whole font. It makes the PDF smaller. Its name usually starts with six capital letters followed by a plus sign.
Can Font Analyzer identify the font in an image?
No. It reads the fonts stored in the PDF file. A picture of text, such as a scanned page, contains no font information.
Is Super PDF really free?
Yes. All tools are free to use with no sign up and no watermark added to your files.
Are my files safe and private?
Yes. Files are processed directly inside your web browser. They are never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see them.
Does it work on mobile phones?
Yes. Super PDF works on Android, iPhone, tablets, Windows, Mac and Linux in any modern browser.
